Murmuration was established in 2023 by Sophie Compton, a SXSW Award Winning, BIFA nominated director/producer who tells women's stories of injustice and healing. Alongside each of her films, she creates a substantial impact project to create cultural change. She is a Doc NYC 40-Under-40 and IDA Enterprise honoree and Sundance Catalyst fellow. Her work has been supported by Impact Partners, Hot Docs, Arts Council England and many others.

 

Her debut feature ANOTHER BODY follows a student’s search for justice after discovering deepfake pornography of herself online. It had a multi-award-winning run of 40+ festivals including SXSW, Hot Docs, Mill Valley and IDFA, was released theatrically across the USA (Utopia/Willa), UK (Modern Films/Willa) and Canada (Level.Film) and broadcast on BBC 4, CBC and many international channels.

Alongside it, she set up the impact campaign MY IMAGE MY CHOICE to amplify the voices of deepfake abuse survivors, working with over 30 survivors plus The White House, Bumble, World Economic Forum, UK Law Commission.

 

Her second feature HOLLOWAY (in post-production) follows six women returning to the abandoned prison where they were once incarcerated, produced by Grierson and BIFA-nominated Beehive Films, supported by Hot Docs. Alongside it, she created impact project LAYERS, producing an immersive exhibition and series of online content featured on the BBC and Guardian.

 

She was previously Artistic Director of Power Play Productions, where she produced/directed six plays including Fringe First and Filipa Braganca Award winning, Offie nominated FUNERAL FLOWERS, plus work at Tate Modern, V&A, Pleasance. She has written for Vogue, CNN, i-D, Huffington Post.
